One of the first Avenger GT-15s.  Steel tube frame w/Corvair running gear and rear-mounted engine.  Took ~ 2000 hours including complete engine rebuild, much original fabrication (to make up for lack of instructions from Fiberfab) and lots of corrective surgery (to make up for goofs at Fiberfab).  To be fair, the Kit Car industry was in its infancy when I ordered the Kit in 1969.

Richard's "GT40"

I still have the "assembly" manual and brochure for the kit (featuring the girl in the net "dress" getting into or out of the car).  That sold me!

I drove the car for 14 years before selling to younger enthusiast, went on to build SS-100, MGTD, "59 356 Cabriolet and still have '86 Fiero based Ferrari 328.  I think I've finally retired from the Kit Car business as I have from NASA.  I well remember every detail of construction so can answer some questions if they come up.

The picture below shows what I did with the back of my Avenger GT-15.  The tail lights were from the '65 Corvair Corsa (4 carbs, 140 hp) I bought at a junk yard and were cut into the back panel ala Corvettes of the period (70-71).  The flat panel and lip provided a place for the license plate and light and the little red panel below covered the belt pully on the Corvair engine.  The flat license plate panel was also needed to provide the clearence necessary to allow the rear bonnet to tilt up - without it, the back panel hit the engine when the rear bonnet was tilted.

Webmasters comment: The rear view of the Avenger/Valkyrie has always seemed odd to me, so I enjoy seeing the creative variations builders have come up with. In this case, form follows function for a pleasing result.

The next picture shows the front view.  Note Gas filler in center of "hood" and '69 Camaro park/turn light assemblies modified to serve as stand alone units instead of being mounted into the body as on the Camaro.  Windshield wipers were also from Corvair as was the heater blower,  heater and defroster ducting and controls, and gas tank (modified for top center fuel sender and fill location).   These pics taken just after car painted in '71.
