Tim Drager

Tim's 1971 Avenger is a bit out of the ordinary. Most Avengers are Volkswagen based, Tim's is Voltswagen based. That's right, it is electric powered.

Now electric cars may not sound exciting to some, visions of golf carts might even come to mind. For others, the notion is one of low or even zero emissions, earth friendly transportation. The one thing about this car, it does not look like your typical electric car, and it is certainly not your typical Avenger.

Avenger Electric Power A peek under the hood is not real impressive, it looks too simple. However, that electric motor is capable of 100 peak horsepower. Anyone who knows anything about electric motors, knows one thing that is very different about them compared to internal combustion engines - electric motors have maximum torque at zero RPM. Translation: They are great at standing start acceleration.

The electric motor peaks at 100 horsepower, but if that power is required of it, it can be only for a limited time. This motor will overheat at that level, so a more conservative rating of 28 horsepower is used for cruise. Interior Shot
